Which photos make the best pages
The cleaner the photo, the cleaner the lines. A book looks best when most pages have one clear subject.
Works well
- One clear subject that fills most of the frame
- Even light, like outdoors on a bright day or next to a window
- A plain background: a wall, grass or sky
- Strong contrast between the subject and what is behind it
- A sharp photo, at least 768 px on the shortest side
Usually disappoints
- Dark, blurry or heavily filtered photos
- Busy backgrounds, like a messy room or a crowd
- Hard shadows across faces
- Wide shots where the subject is tiny
- Small, low-resolution images saved from a chat or a screenshot
Printing your photo coloring book
At home
Print the PDF single-sided so markers don't bleed through, choose "Best" quality for darker lines, and print the cover on cardstock if you have it.
As a stapled booklet
Stack the pages behind the cover and put two or three staples along the left edge. Ten minutes, and it looks like a book.
At a print shop
Send them the PDF and ask for single-sided pages, a cardstock cover and coil or comb binding. Order several copies if more than one child will color it.
