Lowercase cursive letters
The 26 lowercase cursive letters, a to z. Almost all of them start or end on the baseline and join the next letter with a small connecting stroke. Select a letter for its steps, joins, words and worksheet.
Capital cursive letters
Cursive capitals are bigger and fancier than lowercase letters, and some of them stand on their own instead of joining. Pick a capital to see how to write it, or see them all, with which ones join and the hardest ones to learn.

How cursive letters connect
In cursive, the pencil stays on the paper for the whole word. Most letters end with a small stroke up from the baseline that leads straight into the next letter.
Four letters are different: b, o, v and w end up at the middle line, so the letter after them joins along the top. Joins such as "bo", "ow", "ve" and "wh" are worth practicing on their own.
The dots on i and j and the crosses on t and x come last, once the whole word is written.
Cursive letter groups
Many teachers introduce lowercase cursive letters in groups that start the same way:
- Letters that start like a c, just under the middle line: a, c, d, g, o, q.
- Loop letters, which swing up from the baseline into a tall loop: b, e, f, h, k, l.
- Letters that start at the middle line and go straight down: i, j, t, u, w, y.
- Letters that start with a small hook: m, n, v, x, z.
- Letters that start with a stroke up from the baseline: p, r, s.
Cursive numbers 0 to 9
In US cursive, numbers are written much like print numbers, with the same slant to the right as the letters. They sit between the baseline and the top line and do not join each other.
Practice them on the same handwriting lines as the letters, or type any numbers into the cursive worksheet generator.
